The project to implement nature-based solutions (NBS) at Galeria Młociny in Warsaw includes, amongst other things, the creation of new green spaces in the square in front of the main entrance, incorporating tall vegetation; the introduction of a greater variety of plant species on the existing green roofs; climbing plants on the walls; new green roofs open to the shopping centre’s visitors; and a rain garden. The project also proposes an area for natural succession.

What characteristic elements did we use in the project?
NEW GREEN SPACES

On the existing square in front of the main entrance, despite heavy foot and cycle traffic and a range of other functions, we have designed 470 m² of new green spaces.

GREEN WALLS

We design climbing plants for facades covering an area of 5,000 m².

GREEN ROOFS

We design new green roofs and enhance the biodiversity of existing ones.

RAINWATER GARDEN

We are designing a garden on the existing lawn. It is intended to collect rainwater from the roof over the delivery area.

What results have we obtained?

BIODIVERSITY

We have designed a new green roof covering 2,700 m² and enhanced the plant diversity of the existing green roof covering 4,280 m².

SHADE

We have planted 6 tall trees to provide more shade in the entrance courtyard.

TEMPERATURE DECREASE

We have shaded 1,877 m² of the south-facing façades with climbing plants.

BIORETENTION

We have improved water retention and slowed down and reduced rainwater runoff across an area of 7,530 m².
