Katowice International Airport Wojciech Korfanty

Pyrzowice

The project of implementing nature-based solutions (NBS) in the parking lot in front of passenger terminals includes the change of up to 2,260m2 of paved areas into rain gardens and flower meadows without reducing the number of parking spaces. As part of the investment, planned for 2023, green walls and pergolas over pedestrian crossings will also be built.

What characteristic elements did we use in the project?
RAIN GARDENS

They are designed to intercept part of the rainwater flowing from the parking lot before it goes to the rainwater sewage system. They were located in places where there are no underground networks and near rainwater drainage inlets due to the ease of making emergency overflows.

FLOWER MEADOWS

We design flower meadows in places where it is not technically possible to construct rain gardens and where waterproof surfaces can be dispensed with.

GREEN WALL

We are designing a green wall on the glass facade of Terminal C, exposed to the south side. It is a mesh substructure dedicated to climbers.

PERGOLA

To create shaded path from the parking lot to the terminals, we design pergolas overgrown with ivy over the pedestrian crossings.

We changed 835m2 of lawns into flower meadows.

3
TEMPERATURE DECREASE

We shaded 170m2 of glass elevation with vines
