Ministerstwo Klimatu i Środowiska, Warszawa

Warszawa

The project to implement nature-based solutions (NBS) on the premises of the Ministry of Climate and Environment in Warsaw involved the conversion of hard surfaces, the creation of green walls using climbing plants, and new plantings.

What characteristic elements did we use in the project?
DEPAVING

We are designing 700 m² of new green spaces of high ecological value.

GREEN WALL

In the courtyard and on the north side, we are installing a green wall made of ivy.

RAIN GARDENS

They are designed to intercept part of the rainwater flowing from the parking lot before it goes to the rainwater sewage system. They were located in places where there are no underground networks and near rainwater drainage inlets due to the ease of making emergency overflows.

ENRICHEMENT

In areas where there are existing green spaces, which are currently lawns, we are planning to introduce a greater variety of plant species.

What results have we obtained?

1
BIORETENTION

Our solutions increase retention by 12.6 percentage points.

2
TEMPERATURE DECREASE

We have reduced the temperature by replacing hard surfaces with green spaces featuring trees and providing shade.

3
BIODIVERSITY

We have introduced 4 new species of trees and shrubs, 3 species of climbing plants and 9 species of perennials.

4
SOIL QUALITY

We have improved the soil quality by replacing the surface and planting new vegetation.
