PreZero Arena Gliwice

Gliwice

The project to implement nature-based solutions (NBS) at the PreZero Arena in Gliwice involved the conversion of hard surfaces, the creation of green walls using climbing plants, and new plantings.

What characteristic elements did we use in the project?
DEPAVING

We are removing concrete to create new green spaces that are valuable to the ecosystem.

GREEN WALL

We have designed climbing plants for the façade to promote biodiversity and reduce the urban heat island effect.

ENRICHEMENT

We have used native plant species that coexist with the local fauna and require less water and maintenance.

RAIN GARDENS

They are designed to intercept part of the rainwater flowing from the parking lot before it goes to the rainwater sewage system. They were located in places where there are no underground networks and near rainwater drainage inlets due to the ease of making emergency overflows.

What results have we obtained?

1
TEMPERATURE DECREASE

We have reduced the temperature by replacing hard surfaces with green spaces featuring trees and providing shade.

2
BIORETENTION

We have reduced the risk of flash floods and flooding by implementing retention solutions.

3
BIODIVERSITY

We have introduced 6 new species of trees and shrubs, and 4 species of perennials.

4
SOIL QUALITY

We have improved soil quality by increasing aeration and enriching the soil with beneficial organisms.
