Railway Station

Będzin

The project to implement nature-based solutions (NBS) at Będzin railway station involved new plantings, the construction of a pergola, retention basins and a green roof.

What characteristic elements did we use in the project?
GREEN WALL

We have designed climbing plants on the façade, pergolas and trellises to promote biodiversity and reduce the urban heat island effect.

DEPAVING

We are removing concrete to create new green spaces that are valuable to the ecosystem.

RETENTION BASINS

Their purpose is to capture some of the rainwater running off the car park. They are located in areas where there are no underground networks and near storm drain inlets.

ENRICHEMENT

In areas where green spaces currently exist – which are now lawns – we are planning to introduce species diversification.

What results have we obtained?

1
BIODIVERSITY

We have introduced 7 new species of trees and shrubs, 7 species of climbing plants and perennials.

2
SOIL QUALITY

We have improved the soil quality by replacing the surface and planting new vegetation.

3
TEMPERATURE DECREASE

We have reduced the temperature by replacing hard surfaces with green spaces featuring trees and providing shade.

4
BIORETENTION

Our solutions increase the site’s water retention capacity from 36% to 59%.
